PERSONAL:

  • Roemer graduated from Glendora (California) High School when he was a star pitcher and was named league MVP running for Glendora's cross country team.
  • After high school, Wes accepted a scholarship to Cal State Fullerton.

  • Roemer had one of the best seasons in Cal State Fullerton history in 2006, leading the Titans to Omaha at 13-2, 2.38 in a national-high 155 innings.

He stumbled out of the gates in 2007, thanks in part to a broken pinky finger, before rallying late to get his numbers (10-6, 3.33 ERA) back in line with past performance. And he pitched a 7-inning no-hitter to beat the University of Minnesota on June 1, 2007 in the NCAA Regional playoffs.

  • In June, 2007. the Diamondbacks chose Roemer with the 50th overall pick and scout Mark Baca signed him for $620,000.

  • During the winter before 2008 spring training, the Baseball America Prospect Handbook rated Roemer as the 11th-best prospect in the D'Backs' organization. In the spring of 2009, they had Wes at 21st-best in the Arizona farm system.

  • Wes doesn't run on the baseline as a superstition.

  • Roemer enjoys playing basketball when he is away from the ball field. Other favorites: Seattle Mariners (team), Ken Griffey, Jr. and Rich Harden (players), Jerry Maguire (movie), Tom Cruise (actor), Tara Reid (actress) and Family Guy (TV show).

  • Wes has a spunky attitude that opponents don't always like.
  •

    PITCHING:

    • Roemer has an 88-93 mph sinking 2-seam FASTBALL and a solid 74-76 mph SLIDER with depth that he will throw in any count. Wes spots his CHANGEUP well, but the pitch needs work.

Wes gets better sink on his heater when he throws it at 88-90 mph.
    • Wes has a good feel for pitching. And his excellent command is probably his best asset as a pitcher. He paints both sides of the plate. He never gives in to a hitter.

    • Roemer is learning to pitch to contact. But he gives up a lot of home runs. That is because his pitches get too much of the strike zone.

    • He could become a #4 or #5 starter in a major league rotation.

    • Wes is a bulldog on the mound.

    CAREER INJURY REPORT:

    • January, 2007: Wes broke his pinky finger on his throwing hand, missing a few games early in the year.
    • Early in August, 2010: Roemer was on the D.L. for a couple of weeks or so.
